Thousands of years ago, the worlds of the Blue Patch Nebula were at relative peace with each other. While not without the usual interstellar political problems, life had been relatively good. Then the Rain came. Noone knows exactly what happened, but the worlds of the Blue Patch were hit with a devastating shower of comets and meteors, rendering their civilizations useless and forcing their peoples to seek shelter under the ground or into primitive nomadic lifestyles.

And in that way humanity lived for thousands of years, slowly struggling back from the brink of extinction and rebuilding their societies and technologies alongside the more arcane and spiritual arts that they had discovered during their wanderings. However, returning to their original strengths of population and knowledge, the civilizations find themselves both more resistent to the disasters of the past and on less stable footing, as the subtle paranoia of once-imperiled peoples creates tension between them.

Further destabilizing matters, a massive interstellar Pandemic, thought to be carried along in the currents of the nebula’s own atmosphere, has swept through the inhabited planets and moons of the Blue Patch, decimating all populations and weakening governments and societies, making them ripe for the taking.

Two decades laters, as wars have broken out and old empires crumble to feed new ones, large orphanages opened to house and care for the children of those perished in the Pandemic are now begining to release their charges into the world. No longer children, with no clear past and only an uncertain future, these orphans carry on their shoulders the burdens of the hopes, mistakes and greed of previous generations.

Shielded from the world for almost two decades and sent out the door to fend for themselves, it remains to be seen if the orphans will help their respective societies flourish again, or merely be present for their collapse…
