Kandi’Kana

Home > Codex > Factions > Kandi'Kana
Location: Chi’Hamak

Belief System: The Kandi’Kana seem to have a hybridized Hive Mind/Culture which allows them to form a complex belief system around kinds of “shaman” in their society. These shaman, in addition to being able to fulfill their genetic role of secreting medicinal agents for use by the broader Kandi’Kana population for health, also have been known to use a magical aspect that seems to be unique to their society. To date, no known shrines to deities exist.

Architectural: As insects, the Kandi’Kana dig out immense hive systems for temporary and semi-permanent use. While explorers, adventurers, and soldiers have all reported encountering hive complexes of various sizes, all of these networks had become abandoned and subsequently caved in. Whether this is in whole or in part due to the unofficial policies of the Charkritians to sanction the eradication of the Kandi’Kana threat is unclear, but what has been discovered is that they are highly mobile, with hive entrances appearing and disappearing with alarming speed and stealth. Some hives were reported to be at least partially supported with foreign materials such as wood or debris.

Political Structure: Almost completely unknown. The Kandi’Kana are known to have a kind of hive society, and the previously mentioned Shamans play a vital role in it, though it remains to be seen if there are any political functions in their society. To date, the Kandi’Kana have not only ignored any diplomatic overtures, but they have insisted on slaying any who tried to open a dialog (though they do trade with merchants from time to time- reportedly a tense and stressful exchange).

Cultural Personality: The Kandi’Kana are technologically a stone-age culture, and roughly bipedal insects (upright is probably a more accurate term) with higher-order cognition. They have language, writing, and (supposedly) a belief system to which they adhere. Unfortunately, they are also territorial to the utter extreme, fighting to the last when their hives are invaded. Known to trade occasionally with merchants (provided those merchants are unarmed), the Kandi’Kana merchants can be found near the oasis the Hamak’Del.

It is assumed that they are hatched from eggs, like all insects, and the various kinds of Kandi’Kana types is to do with hormonal changes enacted upon those eggs during the gestation period. So far, the warrior, shaman, scout, worker, and merchant [citation needed] have been noted, though other types may exist.

Politics Pertaining to other Factions:

The Kandi’Kana hold no known political objectives, and their activities are almost exclusively confined to harrassment and attacking of caravans, individuals, groups, and military patrols which move with great frequency through the Hamak’Del and its surrounding areas. Reports from past conflicts detail Kandi’Kana attacks on invading Shendolin and Stellar Corporation bands and units.
